Re: Questions about SLEO II hiring processes

Thank you both very much for detailed and helpful answers.

It’s tough making a decision and having good time management as I consider my future with Alternate Route opportunities, Chief’s tests, SLEO jobs that sent u to the academy, Civil service, etc. But this community is a big help.

Re: Midland Park (Bergen County)

Is it limited to PTC Certified, Alternate Route candidates or Class 2’s eligible for a PTC waiver? Or can someone without any of that bring their resume? You definitely need one of those three, and likely a hook. This is a very small, proactive department. All patrolmen are instructed to give out a...

Re: Roxbury Twp. PD (Morris Co.)

Does the department have any, or are looking for bilingual officers, particularly in Spanish? I’m familiar with Roxbury and see that it is a developing and expanding suburb. It’s also getting more diverse, especially in comparison to other Morris County towns (aside from say, Dover, Parsippany, Morr...

Questions about SLEO II hiring processes

Has anyone gone through the hiring process of a shore town? It’s apparent to me that the easiest way of becoming SLEO II certified is to apply thru shore towns.... nearly all SLEO II job openings seem require SLEO II PTC certification. I’m from North Jersey. Do a lot of candidates make the trip down...

Re: Passaic county residents

Because if the total preference rule for vets it seems the sheriffs certs never make it to the non vets. Not sure what your status is but that's the problem I'm encountering Again here is wicked complaining about veterans. The ones that went to war while he sat on a couch and watched it. What a cow...

Re: Cresskill Boro (Bergen County)

Oh yeah, if you’ve already applied, might as well continue on in the process. I got a 92 for Closter’s Chiefs test and wasn’t selected to continue to the PT. And I know for a fact that several candidates who scored lower than I were invited, and they were from Closter or at least somewhere in the No...

As per from a dispatcher from Little Ferry, only 60 candidates took the written, taking top 30, hiring 1-2 for upcoming academy and plan on hiring down the road.
Wow. Looks like the $200 test fee was extremely effective in only attracting the truly motivated candidates.
