Fletc cert qualify NJPTC standards?

Post by NjWannaBe » Wed Feb 20, 2019 10:06 am

Does anyone know how one would find out if their federal cert would satisfy the NJPTC? Does anyone know of an email address / phone number / fax that is public that one can contact to inquire about this question?

I know NJ is notorious for rejecting out of state certs, but I thought that maybe a fed cert might have some weight to it. Thanks for any help fellas!

Your best bet is to call the PTC ((609) 376-2800). Most likely they will say "no".

NJ pretty much allows you to leave with your PTC, but is pretty arrogant when accepting others. Call and see.

All depends on how much the department pushes. I saw a guy who was CIA Police get hired by a county prosecutor's office and get waived.

In the DCJ academy (Basic Course for Investigators), they will waive FLETC certs. There is currently a retired FBI and a young uniformed Secret Service in the class getting waived. Not sure if they would extend the same for the Basic Course for Police Officers but I’d imagine they would.

Is a NJ PTC accepted and exempt from FLETC?

No, FLETC does not waive anybody, especially State and Local. Some 1811 jobs accept Quantico certs from DEA and FBI, but that's it.

Go to the NJ PTC website and click on Waiver Section, then download the PTC Form 15, you would be checking off Federal to Basic Police.

The Waiver process is explained in detail on the site, but basically the way it works is that only the hiring Chief can request the waiver and he can only do that after he has hired you, then he has 1 year to get you trained in accordance to whatever the PTC says you need to make up. So, if PTC says you need 10 hours of Title 39, 4 hours of DV and 20 hours of 2C, then you would start working but you would also enroll in a NJ Police Academy class and whenever those subjects that you need are being covered, you would show up and sit in the back of the recruit class and take the training, then leave.

I think the only FLETC classes that are likely to be recognized by NJ PTC are CITP, UPTP and maybe LMTP. Those are the closest to a NJ Basic Police Academy. Forget about CBP, BOP, ICE-D, not even close.
