After the physical and written exam, what is the next step from there?

Wait for a hiring posting from one of the towns and hopefully you meet the minimum requirements such as exam score, education etc. when I took it, no town hired the whole year.

After the physical and written exam, what is the next step from there?

Sadly the monmouth county chiefs tests is nothing more then a fundraiser. You have to apply to all the “chiefs” towns just like anyone else would and you don’t need to have taken the test. Some towns will say you have too but if they truly want to hire you, they can. Myself along with hundreds of others were hired in chiefs towns without ever taking it.
